Actress Kritika Kamra tells Divya Kaushik that there is still a dearth of youth shows on the small screen that talk about relevant issues beside romance

Among many roles that she has so far donned on screen, this is something that has added a lot many teenagers to her fan list. She is not a preacher delving into the dos and don’ts nor is she in a garb of any character trying to take a story forward, she is very much herself, narrating stories that can send an alert and a word of caution to the youth. Kritika Kamra as a host of MTV Webbed has been earning accolades since season one. Now in its second season, the show has made her more popular. “The best part here is that I have to be my real self. When I took up the show I was sure that I didn’t want to be talking like a school teacher on screen telling the youth what rules they should follow on the Internet and what not. I know that today no one wants a lecture. The format of the show is such that I was the narrator of stories, so as narrator also it was a challenge to not come to any conclusion myself or be empathetic to the characters. My job is to tell a story and share how the wrong could have been avoided. There has been a conscious effort to look real on the show,” said Kritika about being the host of the show that is based on cyber crimes. The show has been a huge success and “it means that there has been an awareness.”

After the end of the first season, the second season was brought on air within three months and now the run for second season has been extended from 16 to 24 episodes. “It has been a wonderful experience to be a part of the show. Though I am a very aware person when it comes to Internet and social networking but there are always things that people can learn from a show like this. One most important thing that is needed today is an awareness on cyber laws. Most people do not even know where the cyber crime branch in their city is,” said the actress.

Kritika said that though there have been many shows lately for the youth, but there are only a few that talk about relevant issues. She commented, “We have so many  teenage love stories, but there are only a few shows that talk about real issues. There have been many crime shows as well, but nothing specific for the youngsters.”

The actress, who has been part of fiction shows and was recently seen in the dance reality show, says that she wants to try different things and that is why she took a break from fiction format.
