Be There…If You Dare!

Halloween has cast its spell on India, and it glows differently under Indian skies. What was once a Western whisper of ghosts, pumpkins, and trick-or-treating now roams freely through our streets — bold, noisy, and spectacularly alive. Across cities, people paint their faces, slip into cloaks and vampire capes, and step out to celebrate fear as if it were a festival of art.

Delhi’s HorrorCon India 2025, held at Okhla, captured that mood perfectly, bringing together the thrill of darkness and the exuberance of performance. Curated by Khooni Monday, the event was a celebration of creativity, theatre, and playful horror. What began as the Celtic festival of Samhain now beats with an Indian pulse — a celebration where tradition, technology, and imagination merge. The event reimagined the festival through an Indian lens.

The grounds resembled a living stage, glowing with lanterns and mist. Everywhere one turned, there was something curious to see, tarot readers revealing fates, cosplayers dressed as cinematic demons, and artists showcasing sculptures that twisted horror into beauty. Children carried pumpkin baskets through the Trick-and-Treat alley, while adults explored the “Bizarre Bazaar” filled with handcrafted masks, skull candles, gothic jewellery, and Halloween-themed art.

Nearby, the “Hallowville Food Zone” served eerie delights — desserts dusted in black cocoa, blood-red mocktails, and spicy snacks inspired by cinematic villains. Everywhere one turned, something fascinating awaited — cosplayers as Indian ghosts, illusionists twisting perception, and artists moulding the strange into beauty. For a country that has always loved a good ghost story, from chudails to bhoots — Halloween feels less borrowed and more rediscovered. The festival of fright has turned into a festival of delight — where masks reveal, shadows dance, and the night itself smiles back.
