An ongoing group exhibition titled Mumbai to Delhi, captures the journey of all the artists from their cities to Delhi

When you walk into the lokayata Art Gallery you will come across a black and white portrait of an old woman selling vegetables, which is painted green, with a shadow of a cow on the right end of the picture. Then there is another painting of a dancer and many more. These are part of an ongoing group exhibition titled Mumbai to Delhi.

According to Smruti Sirsat, curator and organiser, “We have artist from varied backgrounds like Preeta Rajendra from Mumbai with a degree in ancient history of art to Deepak Vinod Prakash Gupta from Mumbai, who is from the marine background and also runs for marathons, Nitin Bali from Mumbai, who is a set designer in Bollywood. Others like Dipankar Roy from Kolkata, Murali Raman from Mumbai, Gaurav Bose and Salman Sheikh from Mumbai and Devanshi from Gujarat with unique art styles. We also have senior artists like Pulakesh Mandal from Delhi, Sayajirao Nangare from Sangli and Manik Kandar from Kolkata who are legends.”

She explained that the artworks denote the journey of the artists, the preparation that they took from their respective cities and the culmination of their journey in Delhi. The exhibition is also to acknowledge the ever present support that the art fraternity provides to each other whenever they are exhibiting in each other’s cities.

Sirsat said, “We have just concluded our exhibition at the fifth edition of the India Art Festival at the Nehru Centre, Mumbai. Now, we are here in Delhi the art hub of India, which is a witness to the history of India right from the rise and fall of the Mughal Empire and has so many historical monuments. We have selected Hauz Khas as it is a historical place and the gallery is a prestigious one which has hosted art exhibitions of many great artists.”
