With rental cars for self-drive, customised pizza ovens, fast food past midnight and a chauffeur to save you from drunken driving, the city’s lifestyle is all set for a makeover
Handle the hunger pangs
If you mostly end up surrendering to midnight hunger pangs, then this one is for you. You have a lot of options to gorge on, all you need to know is the right place to order from. What’s moreIJ You can also order condoms, cigarettes and cookies in the wee hours.
Young entrepreneurs have come up with start-ups like the Batman Delivers, Midnight Munchies and Midnight Sutra, that offer food, coffee, tea, condoms, chocolates, cigarettes, cookies.
“I was studying late-night, preparing for an examination. My friends and I were hungry and we had no one to cook around. Somehow we landed up at a store where instead of being served with food, we messed up with goons,” says Manvir Singh Anand, who then started Knight Bites to offer food samples past midnight.
Keeping in mind security conditions, these services come as a boon for young girls and boys who are living away from families. Knight Bites operates from 10pm to 4am and also offers other essentials like medicines. “The contemporary consumer behaviour is all about convenience. We are trying to bridge a gap in society,” says Manvir.
A large chunk of their clients come from paying guest accommodations, people with late night office shifts and teens who usually head out for clubbing. Interestingly, women form a major part of their clientele.
Safe and secure
With late night parties becoming a norm, drunk driving has become a menace, especially during the wee hours. On other days, the daunting traffic in the city might take a toll on you, as you drive back home after a hard day at work. Home Safe Chauffeur service offers you solution.
Accessible via a 24-hour hotline, it lets you hire a chauffeur, for your vehicle anytime anywhere in the city, who will drive you to your destination in the comfort of a familiar ride.
“At the moment we are a self-funded enterprise, reaching out to people in a subtle manner. We have got regular clients who often tend to indulge in overdriking and need a safe back up. A lot of customers are from South Delhi and Gurgaon,” Nikhil Saigal from Home Safe.
“People are now being offered an array of choices. With increasing education and technological developments, people are becoming more aware. Few years down the line, services of alternate transport will provide great help in mobility,” he added.
Bake it your way
How about some customised ovens at your place, which are made according to the aesthetics of the interiors of your houseIJ you can also get yourself trained in making authentic pizzas. Entreprenur Marco Cappiotti, who has recently shifted his base to Capital from Manali, is busy designing some fancy ovens for big houses and restaurants. These handmade ovens come in different sizes: small, medium and big. He visits the location and then decides the colour and size of the oven. “Generally, I use mosaic (stone or tile) or red-brick finish. I do have a team but all the handwork is done by me. It takes time but my ovens are better and more durable than the branded ones. They also retain heat for longer period,” he said. The price ranges from Rs 50,000 to 1.5 lakh.

In the city, the self driven cars find takers not only among the young travellers but a major chunk of customers for self-driven cars are foreign tourists who are used to driving by themselves.
