A steady approach

Divya Kaushik

For Oksana Rasulova from Azerbaijan, winning India’s Best Cinestar Ki Khoj is like achieving another milestone in her journey to be an actress. She tells Divya Kaushik that she is grateful to the Indian audience

She was apparently the only contestant who was consistently brilliant in her performances on the stage of India’s Best Cinestar Ki Khoj on Zee. So it was no wonder to see her emerge as a winner. When we spoke to her soon after she was declared the winner, Oksana Rasulova was bubbling and it was pretty evident that she saw the success coming her way. “I have worked hard throughout the show but the competition was tough. One thing that I kept in mind was to learn as much as I could about acting from this platform, winning wasn’t the only goal,” said Oksana, who hails from Azerbaijan and is proud to admit that she has been a die hard fan of Bollywood since childhood. “I have been dreaming to be like Madhuri Dixit since an early age. Both my father and mother are engineers and were initially not happy with my plans of being an actor. Winning this competition is a big leap towards pursuing my passion and living my dream,” said Oksana, who has learnt Bharatanatyam and before coming to India she was quite a star in her own country. “But there was not much scope, so to give shape to my dream I had to come to Mumbai. I have been giving auditions and choreographing since I came here,” she added.

Her biggest challenge has been to learn Hindi. “I had a Hindi teacher who helped me learn the language. Then my team that was training me for the show helped me a great deal. It is all because of their efforts that I could deliver the act that was often appreciated by the judges,” she informed.

As a winner of the show, Oksana has got a chance to debut with Guroudev Bhalla’s movie which will be written and creatively supervised by Mahesh Bhatt and produced by Dhaval Gada. Oksana said, “Even to get such a chance is the big thing in the industry where people have to struggle for years for small roles. I realise it is a big opportunity and will give my hundred per cent to make most of it. Even after my debut film, I will continue doing all kind of work. I understand that the role might be small but it will help me set foot in the industry.”

When asked bout her favourite moment from the reality show, she gushed, “It has to be a meeting with Salman Khan.”
