The fashion world united to honour Rohit Bal’s brilliance and legacy, says SAKSHI PRIYA
Rohit Bal was a designer who poured his heart and soul into everything he created. His designs were expressions of who he was, a celebration of his love for India and its rich heritage. His work was a reflection of India itself - its beauty, its traditions and its soul. Through his creations, he told stories of heritage, craftsmanship and artistry that resonated deeply with anyone who appreciated the magic of fashion. On an unforgettable evening, his legacy was celebrated by those who knew him, loved him and were inspired by his unmatched creativity.
A Tribute Like No Other
Blenders Pride Fashion Tour, powered by Fashion Design Council of India, honoured the life and legacy of one and only, Rohit Bal. The venue was transformed into a world that reflected his creative spirit. Sumant Jayakrishnan designed the space with elements that felt like they had been lifted straight from Bal’s imagination, Mughal motifs, intricate florals and the timeless elegance he was known for. The energy in the air was different, filled with emotion, pride and a sense of remembrance.
The night belonged to Bal, but it also belonged to the people who walked alongside him in his journey. Designers, actors, models and friends came together, not to witness a fashion show but to celebrate a man who had left an indelible mark on their lives. Each one had a story to tell, a memory to hold onto. The ramp was graced by names who had been part of his world, Kalyani Chawla, JJ Valaya, Madhur Bhandarkar, Rahul Dev, Esha Gupta and many others. Their presence made it clear, this was a gathering of those who truly understood his brilliance.
The Muse & The Moment
Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. Sonam Kapoor, his beloved muse, walked the ramp in a creation that felt like a piece of history. The fabric moved with grace, carrying the essence of Bal’s signature style. As she walked, there was silence, a collective pause, as if the entire room wanted to hold on to the moment just a little longer. Sonam had worn his creations countless times before, but tonight was different. It was about the years of friendship, the countless fittings, the whispered conversations before a show, the shared vision.
"It has always been an honour to be Rohit’s muse, donning his extraordinary creations for many years. Being a part of this unique celebration of his legacy at Tour has been a true honour and one that will be etched in my memory forever," Sonam said.
A Night to Remember
The night was filled with emotions. There were smiles, there were tears and there was an overwhelming feeling of gratitude. As videos of Bal played across the venue, showing glimpses of his journey, his laughter, his passion, it felt as though he was still there, watching it all unfold.
Sunil Sethi, the Chairman of the FDCI said, “This was a celebration of a man who gave so much to the world of fashion. His legacy will never fade.” And that was the truth. Rohit Bal’s work, his artistry and his spirit will continue to inspire generations to come.
As the night came to an end, no one wanted to leave. The conversations, the shared memories, the unspoken understanding that fashion had lost one of its brightest stars, all of it made the evening unforgettable. But if there’s one thing that was certain, it’s that Gudda’s legacy will never be just a memory. It will live on, in every fold of fabric, in every stroke of embroidery, in every dreamer who dares to create with as much passion as he did.
