Raghu Dixit will rearrange three of his most popular tracks on MTV Unplugged next month. He chatted with I Kaur

There are several things that inspire people to come up with music. It can be life, emotions, subjects or nature. However, for Raghu Dixit, India stands as his sole motivator. “This country is a collage of different cultures. I am proud of its tradition and adapt it well too. So, my music is a representation of that. Of course, there are mixed influences at times, but my core inspiration is India,” shared the musician who will be seen going unplugged on MTV next month along with his band, Raghu Dixit Project.

He was thrilled at the opportunity and exclaimed, “I have associated with this platform, right from the days of listening to Eric Clapton on television. It has been a great encouragement in my career. Thus, when Unplugged started I was very keen to be a part of it and after so many years finally the dream has come true. Hence, it is a very special moment.”

Raghu along with his team will be playing a set of six songs. Three of these songs will be from his forthcoming untitled album and three will be his classic numbers. However, all the old songs will be rearranged. He explained, “The first song will be Hey Bhagwan. The song will have a changed rhythm with an added solo. Also, it was earlier on a guitar and now it will be on the flute and violin. The melody too has been changed. The next song is in Kannada, Gudugudiya Sedi Nodo which has also been completely rearranged. The idea was to break down the songs completely and then start from scratch. So technically it is a new song.”

He continued, “The third number is Mysore Se Aayi. Then we have three of our new tracks. They are Jag Changa, completely acoustic but not rearranged, Yaadon Ki Kyari which will be the same as it is because it will be more like an introduction to my album and then another Kannada song, lokada Kalaji.”

Dixit feels that the show came to the band at the perfect time since his new album is nearing its release. “I think it is a great platform to promote my new album. It will be out in November, the time when the episode will be aired. So I think it will be nice to introduce people to my new music through this,” he summed up.
