During the promotional tour of Kapoor & Sons, the cast spoke about how the story is about family values and how Siddharth Malhotra bonded with Fawad Khan. By S Mallik
A fun-loving witty dadu, parents who can’t go a day without squabbling with each other, two brothers who try to reconnect with each other after spending years apart and a next-door girl — well this is what we all know since the day Dharma Productions released the trailers for Kapoor & Sons.
But some myths were busted and some unknown facts were revealed by the cast and crew of the movie during their Delhi stint. And from the looks of it, they had quite the rocking time, with the gorgeous Alia celebrating her birthday here.
The movie, to begin with, is not a love triangle. Director Shakun Batra cleared the growing speculation, “From the trailers it is not that clear but there is no love triangle in the movie. It is a simple story about a family, where the grandfather wishes to have a family photograph and caption it Kapoor & Sons since 1921. The entire narration of the story is about how the family gets together to fulfill that wish.”
This movie, in many ways, is a first for Alia, Siddharth and Fawad. Siddharth and Alia reunite after their debut Student of The Year days. And this happens to be Fawad’s first project in an ensemble starcast. The trio sure did share some valuable moments during the shooting. “It was a lot of fun. We would play pictionary and do other things in between. It’s good to have people you are comfortable with. Plus sharing a movie with actors like Rajat sir and Ratna ma’am is a very big step in itself,” said Alia, who is riding high on the success of ladki beautiful kar gayi chull. However, while we know at least something about the rest of the actors in the movie, Alia’s character is still shrouded in mystery and the director told us that people will have to see the movie to know it. “let’s keep some of the mystery alive till the release,” he smiled.
Fawad told us that he is yet to break the ice with Alia, while the actress added, “No, that’s true. But now that we have been travelling together, I have come to know him a little better.” Siddharth, on the other, did not have a problem in getting into the shoes of his character as a brother because he grew up with an elder brother. “We had to crack that chemistry and ease into our characters. I guess we did that during the initial days. Plus I had a reference point because I have an elder brother. There was a scene where the brothers had met after many years and had to share a giggle. I realised that the best way to do that was to curse Fawad, on his face. And that worked,” laughed Siddharth.
The movie is more about personal perspectives. It’s about how you see yourself, your family and somebody else’s. “There was a small preview of the movie for selected people and when the audience came out, they were not talking about one character of one scene. They spoke of many things at one and for us, that is the best thing that can happen. It is all about perspective,” director Shakun, and Alia pointed out.
Shakun added that people will connect with the movie because of the relatability factor. “It is a movie with a family at the base, with values, bonds and sentiments. And anyone can relate to that. That is the biggest selling point of the movie,” Shakun wrapped up.
