‘I don’t believe I’m successful’

Having won both critical as well as box-office applause for his role in the Salman Khan starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan, actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he still does not consider himself to be successful.

“I don't believe that I am a successful person. I just like doing different roles, I have a passion for that,” Siddiqui said.

When asked what changes he feels in his life after the success of the film, which has grossed more than `300 crore, the 41-year-old actor said, “I am the same as a person. I don't change but only the perception of people changes about me”.

He will be seen playing the role of villager Dashrath Manjhi, who single-handedly carved a road through a mountain in 22 years with a hammer and a chisel in Ketan Mehta’s next directorial venture Manjhi.

I am always on the lookout for good writers that I can use in my movies and television shows. I need their support and talent, and it is important for me. Whether it is movie, theatre or television, they are nothing without writers    | ANIl KAPOOR

Director Shoojit Sircar says the rise of empowered female characters in movies are a testimony to the growing importance of women in real-life. Sircar, who showed Deepika Padukone as an independent daughter in Piku and Dolly Ahluwalia as a widowed mother who runs a small parlour in Vicky Donor, said because he views women in the society as progressive, he shows them in the same light in his movies.

“Earlier, women were dependent on the men of the family, as they were the only bread earners. But today, women don't want to be dependent on men. Hence, me and my writer are able to blend them in such a way in our characters,” Sircar said.

Sircar made his directorial debut with the 2005 romantic-war-drama Yahaan has also dabbled with different genres of films but he says that he makes only those movies he believes in.
