Bridge the gap

Ajit Pathak, national president of public relations society of India (PRSI) has called upon PR professionals to use their skill sets in the task of nation building, by reaching out to the marginalised sections of the society, empowering and integrating them with the national mainstream. Extending greetings on the occasion of national PR day, Pathak also urged them to make sincere efforts to use the platform of corporate social responsibility (CSR) along with the basics of public relations. The theme for this year is ‘Better PR for Effective CSR.’

Underlining the theme, Pathak said that it is not desirable to have islands of prosperity around which there is darkness of poverty, hunger and frustration. Public relations, the management of effective image building and creating  bridges of trust is also a platform that needs not just communicators but also social scientists. The world is looking at India with high hopes and the honour and deep-rooted faith in democracy needs to be upheld by all.

The day commemorates the landmark event held on 1968, wherein PR professionals from across the country converged for the first all India public relations conference in New Delhi and also adopted the code of ethics for the public relation profession. This marked the first big step towards the professional public relations in India.

PRSI was established in 1958 to formulate and interpret the objectives and potentialities of public relations as a profession and also to undertake professional development programmes. PRSI has been at the forefront of taking up issues in sync with the aspirations of the nation and its development.
