From Birli dance of Durua tribe of Odisha to tribal folk dance of Mayurbhanj, Karma dance of Kisan tribe, Dhangada-Dhangidi dance of Kutia Kondh tribe and Sarhul dance of Oraon tribe, the ongoing National Tribal Festival features classical forms and styles of tribal communities from across India. It aims at showcasing the country’s rich tribal heritage to the urban population and provides a platform for tribal artistes to perform. The festival also brings to light some rare traditions. For example, Dhemsa dance of Gadaba tribe of Odisha. It is a ritual dance and is generally performed during communal festivals like Pausa Purnima and Chaira Parba. While women form a semi circle to dance, male participants take charge of orchestra with instruments like dhol, tamak, khiridi and mahuri. Authentic tribal cuisine is another attraction of the festival.
