DJ Khushi is back with a bang with his remix compositions for Dekh Tamasha Dekh and IPl’s Delhi Daredevils. He chatted with Pallavi Gupta
His remixes make you groove till you run out of your breath. Khushi Soni, the celebrated DJ, is back with a bang with yet another remix track in Dekh Tamasha Dekh. He has also created a track for Delhi Daredevils for this IPl season. “My nine years of deejaying have been super exciting. My career has seen a lot of ups and downs but I have moved on and learnt my lessons,” he said. Soni shot to fame with Chammak Challo remix, after which he also got close to Shah Rukh Khan. On his love for music, he said, “Ever since my school days, I was crazy for music. I used to take all the pain to download songs with the slowest net connection. I was scolded by my parents for shooting up the Internet bill but I did it anyway because I wanted to be informed about the latest songs. But whatsoever, being a DJ was never a part of my plan. I was just a music lover.” With no intentions of deejaying, the 28-year-old found his passion when one random day, he visited a club. He spotted a DJ playing hit tracks to which people couldn’t stop grooving. “The aura around that DJ left me spellbound”, he exclaimed.
Soni likes to remix tracks than create the original ones. “I always prefer deejaying over producing my own music. You ought to judge yourself when you produce your music. You ponder whether your song would be appreciated or not. The reaction in production is received over a period of time but with deejaying, one gets the result instantly. Good or bad, you know what the crowd has to say and you can improvise accordingly,” he said. Interestingly, Soni has never prepared sets of his compositions for any performance. He shared, “I do not work like that. When you are standing for hours, you tend to play what strikes you. This is how I keep myself entertained. Preparing sets before playing is sort of boring. I decide the transition on the job. Rather the vibe of the floor decides it for me.” Sharing about the best moments of his life, he added, “lately, the best part about my life is that I get to travel a lot. It’s a new experience. Other than this, I get to meet new people and deal with different personalities. All of it is just amazing. To know a person’s idea of living and life before and after he is drunk is some experience.”
Working with legendary figures like Shah Rukh, Akon and AR Rahman has been an enriching experience for him. “The pros of having worked with them is that you tend to do things that you did not know you were capable of doing. I have grown along the way”, he ended.
