‘learn to break the barriers’

Activist and actor Nandita Das, noted for voicing women's issues, feels that females are still marginalised and face stereotypes in their daily lives. While directing the Hindi political thriller Firaaq in 2008, the actor said she had encountered the “typical mindset” which a woman faces when she “tries to break the barriers.”

“When I directed Firaaq, many asked me how is it to be a woman director. But when you direct you do not think whether you are a woman or not,” said the actress. “The fact that I am a woman, comes with idea that there is a different way I look at things. For example if the film is on violence, a woman's gaze is different than what a man looks at it,” added the 44-year-old actress.

I was in need of a lot of help during the making of Ra One, and I would like to thank Rajini sir, Soundarya and lata ma'am for helping me out overnight. Whenever I come to Chennai or Tamil Nadu, all of you give me so much of love. Films (in South) make us proud

Veteran writer-lyricist Javed Akhtar finds it a “shame” that certain people have abused actor-filmmaker and Satyamev Jayate 2 host Aamir Khan and doubted his intentions of amassing donations. “Shame! Instead of appreciating Aamir, some sick people are abusing him,” Akhtar posted on his Twitter page.

Three Arab countries have banned the Hollywood film Noah on religious grounds even before its worldwide premiere and several others are expected to follow suit, a representative of Paramount Pictures has revealed.

Alfonso Cuaron turns to TV

Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuaron was looking for an anti-Gravity follow up to his blockbuster space film and he found it with a rare excursion into television. Cuaron and sci-fi auteur JJ Abrams (lost, the Star Trek movies) are executive producers of Believe, a drama about a child whose supernatural powers put her and the world at risk.

The premise came to him while he waited during ‘the endless process of special effects’ on Gravity. “I wanted to do something in which people were not floating. I wanted to do something more grounded and we wanted to do it with real people, real locations,” he said adding, “I wanted to do something really exciting but at the same time, something that would be highly emotional.”
