Acting on a court directive passed in January last, Andhra Pradesh Police on Monday booked a case against Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and present Finance Minister and former Home Minister P Chidambaram on the charges of cheating the people of Telangana by making false statements on creation of separate State. The case was registered under Section 420 of Indian Penal code.
On a petition filed by a Telangana activist, a local court in Ranga Reddy district had directed the lB Nagar police station on January 28 last to book a case against the two Ministers. As the police failed to do it, the court on Monday issued a stern warning to the Station House Officer.
The petitioner — Telangana Junior Advocates' Association member — Naresh Kumar had drawn the attention of the court to the failure of the police in implementing its orders and the court summoned the SHO.
Approaching the court under Section 166(A) of the IPC (public servant disobeying the law), Naresh Kumar alleged that the two Ministers cheated the people of Telangana by making misleading statements on the issue of a separate Telangana State. He referred to the statements of the two Ministers that the Telangana issue will be resolved soon.
