Riding on the phenomenal ‘Modi wave’ sweeping across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and even Assam in North East, BJP looks set to attain majority solely on its own as the latest trends show it leading in 274 seats, a couple of seats ahead of the magic figure. Together with its allies, the BJP-led NDA is leading in 323 seats (at 12 noon). The Congress is heading for its worst performance in its history - leading in just about 60 seats and the UPA combined ahead in a mere 72 seats, decimated to far below the three-figure mark.
BJP is heading to create history as its Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi had been asserting during his pre-poll campaigns that the NDA will come get a mandate akin to the one the Congress got in 1984 following Indira Gandhi’s assassination.
In the most crucial State of UP, which has the maximum 80 lk Sabha seats, BJP along with the Apna Dal is leading on 67 seats. It seems to blank out Congress in Rajasthan leading on all the 25 seats; in all 26 seats in Modi’s home State Gujarat, in all 7 seats in Delhi. In Maharashtra, the BJP-Shiv Sena combine is leading on 40 of the 48 seats. In Assam, BJP's lead in 7 of the 14 seats has led to its long-serving COngress Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to offer his resignation to the party high command.
