Hyderabad: The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has recommended Environmental Compensation, forfeiture of Bank Guarantees and closure orders against construction projects in Nanakramguda and Kokapet found violating air pollution norms, following a review of 19 projects on Saturday.
The Task Force Committee, which met at the TGPCB Head Office, recommended that projects with major non-compliances be made to pay Environmental Compensation. Projects with minor non-compliances face forfeiture of the Bank Guarantees they had furnished. The Committee also recommended that all non-complying projects be directed to rectify the violations within 10 days.
The Committee further recommended Closure Orders for two captive Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) plants attached to construction projects. The plants were found operating without the Consent for Operation required from the Board.
The Board will now issue formal orders for the levy of compensation, forfeiture of guarantees, rectification directions and closure of the two plants, in line with the Committee's recommendations.
The action follows complaints of air pollution from construction activity in and around Nanakramguda and Kokapet. In response, the Board constituted Rolling Task Force teams and has stepped up inspections and monitoring to check environmental compliance and the air pollution control measures adopted by the projects.
Representatives of the respective projects attended Saturday's review meeting, where the Committee examined the compliance status of each project individually.
