Hyderabad: A Sub-Inspector of Banjara Hills Police Station was arrested by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday for allegedly demanding a bribe from a man booked in two criminal cases and settling for Rs 1 lakh after first asking for Rs 10 lakh.
The ACB has registered a case of criminal misconduct against the accused officer Kottoor Vijay.
According to the officials, the initial demand of Rs 10 lakh was brought down after negotiation and finally fixed at Rs 1 lakh. The money was allegedly sought in return for official favours linked to Crime Nos. 524/2024 and 525/2024 of Banjara Hills Police Station, both of which were registered on court referral.
The ACB said the officer promised not to arrest the complainant in the two cases. He also allegedly agreed to issue notices under Section 41-A of the Cr.P.C., accept the complainant's replies to them and ensure that no fresh case was registered against him over the same matter.
The ACB bureau said the officer acted improperly and dishonestly in discharging his duties, with the intention of gaining an undue advantage for himself.
The case is under investigation. He was being produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand.
