Hyderabad: BRS MLA and former Minister T Harish Rao questioned the unauthorized blasting activities at being carried out near Mallanna Sagar reservoir in Siddipet district. He sought to know whether there was a conspiracy to damage the irrigation project.
On Thursday, along with BRS leaders, Harish Rao inspected the blasting activities at Mallanna Sagar. During the inspection, he questioned how blasting could be permitted in the immediate vicinity of the reservoir without proper authorisation and safety measures. “Are they conspiring to demolish Mallanna Sagar? How can unauthorised blasting be carried out right next to the dam?” Harish Rao asked.
He also alleged that the government was attempting to undermine the Mallanna Sagar in a manner similar to the controversy surrounding the Medigadda barrage. “Are they trying to do to this project what was done to Medigadda?” he questioned.
He strongly criticised the state government over the alleged blasting activities and demanded an explanation from the authorities. He said the safety of the dam and the interests of farmers dependent on the irrigation project should not be compromised.
Harish Rao maintained that any activity capable of affecting the structural safety of the project should be thoroughly investigated and stopped if found to be unauthorised. He also questioned the officials concerned over the permissions granted for the blasting works near the project.
