Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC Dr Dasoju Sravan on Tuesday demanded that Union Home Minister Amit Shah order a CBI investigation on ‘RR Tax’ in Telangana.
He also questioned the Centre's failure to act against Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over allegations of transferring money to the Congress leadership in Delhi.
Speaking at a press conference in Hyderabad, Sravan questioned why Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah were allegedly protecting Revanth Reddy despite allegations that he had amassed thousands of crores of rupees.
He alleged that the BJP leadership had a special affection for Revanth Reddy and compared him to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had switched from the Congress to the BJP.
Sravan accused the Congress and BJP of engaging in political disputes while Telangana was facing severe drought conditions and a looming water crisis. He alleged that the Congress government had failed to address the drought situation and take adequate precautionary measures.
The BRS Member of Legislative Council (MLC) claimed that water-dependent industries were on the verge of closure because of water shortages and accused the Congress government of failing to anticipate the crisis.
Sravan said the Andhra Pradesh government had taken advance measures to deal with drought conditions while Telangana government neglected to precautionery measures. He claimed that around 750 TMC of Godavari water and 250 TMC of Krishna water had flowed into Andhra Pradesh while Telangana continued to face water shortages.
Criticising Shah and Revanth Reddy for trading allegations instead of addressing public concerns, Sravan asked, "What has Telangana gained from Revanth Reddy's protest in Delhi and Amit Shah's padayatra in Hyderabad?"
He questioned why Union ministers and BJP MPs from Telangana had failed to bring the drought situation to Shah's attention during his visit to Hyderabad on Monday.
Describing Shah as the "de facto Prime Minister" of India, Sravan said drought-related proposals were handled by the Union home and agriculture ministries and questioned the Centre's response to the situation in Telangana.
He also questioned why Revanth Reddy had not staged a protest in Delhi demanding Rs 20,000 crore in Central assistance to address the state's problems.
Referring to the cash-for-vote case involving Revanth Reddy, Sravan called the Chief Minister the country's biggest ‘vote thief’.
Sravan also accused the Telangana director-general of police of following what he described as the Anumula Constitution instead of the Constitution of India, alleging that the police were acting at the behest of the Chief Minister.
