Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao said on Friday that his party would strongly oppose any move by the state Congress government to sell the 550 acres of land in Miyapur, Hyderabad, worth Rs 50,000 crore, which was acquired after a long legal battle following the Supreme Court verdict in favour of the state government.

Rao said the previous BRS government tried to transfer these lands to private parties, but the Supreme Court has ruled against the private parties' contentions.

“The Congress government claims that because of their efforts the case was won, but they want to sell off the lands immediately. The government wants to auction them and hand them over to private parties as soon as the Supreme Court judgment is received, without even waiting for a short while,” he accused.

BJP state chief said the Congress government's intention suggests they are acting like a real estate agency, which is not a proper way of thinking. When government-run welfare programs face heavy financial burdens, how are they supposed to manage them, he asked.

Rao said the land should be utilised properly with correct methods and keeping any local development needs in mind. Instead, rushing to sell, auction, or dispose of it immediately after getting a court verdict is not an appropriate action by the government.

Selling off hastily to run the government is not a good precedent, and the BJP strongly condemns the decision, he added.
