Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal escaped unhurt on Saturday after a stone was hurled at him during the Aam Aadmi Party’s campaign rally at Tigdi in South Delhi’s Deoli area. A youth, in his 20s, was apprehended by AAP workers as he was hurling the stone and barely reached the dais where Kejriwal was standing.
The boy was later detained by police. However, with Delhi elections right around the corner, the incident took a political turn in no time and Kejriwal reacted, “The BJP is scared and has become restless which is why it is resorting to such activities.” later he tweeted, “One person threw a stone at me in deoli jansabha today. BJP so scaredIJ Resorting to violenceIJ I wish well for the boy who did it.”
“We have no bad wishes for people who hurl shoes and stones at us, we wish them all the best,” he added. Meanwhile, the BJP recalled similar instances in the run-up to the Delhi polls in 2013 and termed it a publicity stunt. Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said, “These poll gimmicks are AAP’s habit, nothing new.”
This is not the first of this political season, on Thursday an unidentified group hurled eggs at Arvind Kejriwal’s rally. The group also tried to disrupt the rally by tripping the power supply unit. In this case also the eggs did not hit Kejriwal.
