Ways to thrive in new normal

Samridh Seth

The pandemic and its aftermath induced several behavioural changes within us, says Samridh Seth, as he hands out tips to handle the new way of life better

The year 2020, although full of adversities, has directed us to the path of the new normal, and how we can take care of ourselves and also prosper moving forward. Let us go through 7 things you can consider to thrive in the new normal.

It’s the Age of The Polymaths. Learn a variety of things and be ready to adapt and change from one topic/subject to another as the tides turn. The pandemic year has made us vulnerable but at the same time, as fluid to adapt to new conditions too. Take up that long-desired activity; engage in taking baby steps for all that you have wished or dreamed to accomplish. There are no boundaries.

Curiosity is the key. Be curious and use your time wisely to learn as much as you can. A to-do list of activities for the day and planning them out certainly arrest from wasting any time, especially on social media and various other apps due to extra time that we all have at home, away from our work environments. Killing time is certainly losing an opportunity in disguise. Try and avert engaging in any unnecessary activities by the day.

Not sticking to one project but multitasking will certainly keep your mood uplifted and your mind innovative. Keep your mind working on a side project that may one day become a side hustle. Keep innovating, thinking and exploring new ideas. Innovation always is indispensable. Learn to master your multiple qualities by putting them to use continuously.

Self-love should not be seconded. Remember to take care of yourself and love yourself. Make sure you are eating right, exercising right, keeping motivated and moving onwards and upwards. Let not negativity or unforeseen thoughts linger on your mind. It is hard to go at it on your own sometimes but that’s the path we are all on now.

Complaining is never the answer. Don’t complain about what’s going on but try to understand, adapt and improve with the given situation if you can or adjust to the new way the world is. Remember, you can only play the cards you have been dealt with, not the ones in the pack.

If you like painting, sketching, or even swimming, you must take up all the therapeutic hobbies that keep you calm from within. Pick up a new hobby, not dependent on anyone or anything, something you can do yourself. Don’t wait for others, go at everything you want, yourself. If others want to join in for the ride, welcome them with open arms but don’t be dragged down by them.

Getting over the predecessor self is important. Try and be better than you were and strive to always get better than you are. See yourself in the future and chase that goal, play catch up but never reach it. Why? Because you will have bigger and better goals the better you become. Most importantly, you must have fun and enjoy whatever that you are doing. Live life on your terms.

The life ahead is going to be full of challenges and it will be all the more unpredictable with the new normal kicking in, but as much will the challenges be, seeing the opportunities emerging out of the same will be a silver lining in turn for one to adapt and thrive in the new normal.
