Six activists of the Vishwa Hindu Sena were taken into preventive custody after they tried to disrupt the condolence meeting organised in the memory of Ishrat Jahan, a 19-year-old student who was killed in an encounter case.

The condolence meeting was organised by a Non Government Organisation (NGO) at the constitution club on Saturday evening. The accused have been identified as Vishnu Gupta (29) president of the Vishwa Hindu Sena, Pinki Choudhary (42), Raghav Shiv Kuwar (42), Shyam Sharma (55), Mahesh Kumar Prajapati (25) and Parbhat Chaudhary (22).

“Vishwa Hindu Sena activists had gained entry into the hall as it was open to the public but we had deployed the police force in plain clothes as well as in uniform. The moment the function began these guys tried to create ruckus but we overpowered and arrested them,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police New Delhi, SBS Tyagi.

NGO ‘Anhad’ had organised the meet which began around 4:30 pm on Saturday. Brinda Karat, a Rajya Sabha member was also present at the meeting. Since the hall where the meeting was being held was open to all the activists gained entry. They appeared to be a part of meet but later tried to disrupt it. They were then taken into custody. The meet ended peacefully later.
