Even as tyre blowouts continue to kill on the speedway, two people — a manager at a leading publication house and an associate director at a real estate firm — were killed while five others were injured in separate accidents on Noida-Greater Noida expressway on Friday and Saturday.
In the first accident, Vivek Parasher, a marketing manager at Diamond Comics and Shyam Khattar, an associate director of Investor Clinic lost their lives, while the other two were injured when their SUV veered off course and hit a divider. After the hitting the median, the vehicle plummeted into a drain along the service lane of the expressway at Sector 105.
Due to the impact, the car’s airbags deployed but instead of saving lives, both passengers in the front seat were trapped underneath and died. According to police, the accident took place near CNG station.
Rescuers managed to pull out the two passengers in the rear seat. Police said that the four were on a joyride to Delhi test driving a brand new Honda CRV after a blowout at Shyam Khattar’s place at ATS Village in Sector 93.
“The four friends were readying to leave when Khattar decided to take his friend Vipul Gupta’s CRV for a spin. All four in their 40s — Shyam, Vipul, Nitin Kumar and Vivek Parasher — were in the car when the accident occurred,” said Shivram Yadav, DSP, Noida.
The survivors however, alleged that emergency services took two hours to reach them. Nitin and Vipul were taken to Kailash Hospital for treatment. The bodies of Vivek and Khattar have been sent for autopsy.
Meanwhile, the killer expressway witnessed another crash on the Greater Noida to Noida carriageway in Surajpur area. Three partners of a Noida IT firm were seriously injured when their Maruti Esteem rammed into the central verge of the e-way and flipped over around 4.00 am on Saturday. All three in their 20s received serious head injuries and are in the ICU of Kailash Hospital.
