Meghna Mishra | Winning several accolades for her soothing voice in Secret Superstar to now performing playbacks for movies. From Pagglait to Manmarziyan to the most recent Hum Dekhenge from The Kashmir Files, she speaks with SUPRIYA RAMESH about her journey, dream bollywood debut and what it is like to be in the industry being so young
Your track, Hum Dekhenge from The Kashmir Files has received a lot of love. How do you feel about it?
I was truly delighted to know that the track was in such a special film. I feel blessed to be a small part of this historic project.
What was the initial brief given to you before recording the song?
Sanjeev Kohli ji connected me with Swapnil Bandodkar ji and we had a word about the recording. In the studio, I met Swapnil ji and Pallavi Joshi ji. They have been the prominent singers of the track.
When the film released and so did the song, I got the information about the past and existence of Hum Dekhenge by Faiz Ahmad Faiz ji.
You had a dream debut in bollywood with secret superstar. How did that happen, could you throw some light on your journey?
Secret superstar has indeed been an unexpected approach. Santosh Mulekar ji had given me the contact of Amit Trivedi sir’s manager. Although, even he did not know the purpose because the selections were confidential. I sent him a voice note on whatsapp and was further asked to visit the studio. Over there, I was informed about the upcoming film and the audition of 28-30 girls (including me) for the voice of Insia.
You have recieved several accolades. How did you deal with the stardom at such a young age?
I feel blessed to have started with this journey under Amit Trivedi sir and Aamir sir’s guidance and support, as I got to learn ample of aspects about this field. Also, I credit all the acknowledgments I have got to the creators of the film and my parents, of course. Not just I have been given the awards, I have taken those as an inspiration, to work more and harder.
Being a young singer, what would you like to say about our music industry and how welcoming are our composers in terms of giving chances to new talent?
As far as I have come across the artists and composers in this industry, they all have been extremely supportive and conscious about the project. People might have different opinions and thoughts about the work ethics and procedure related topic, but what I have seen is, for the composers the only thing that matters is your talent and skills.
What are you currently working on ?
There are quite many singles lined up and hopefully playbacks as well!
