Talktime | ‘I am the laughing buddha on the show’

MUSBA HASHMI

Farah Khan |  The dancing queen is now all set to bring her hilarious side out on Zee Comedy Show. She tells Musba Hashmi how is the show different from the others, her plans of working on OTT and how with three little ones at home she has to stay extra cautious on the set

What is Zee Comedy Show all about?

It is a comedy show that has two teams consisting of five artists each. The teams will compete against each other by performing skits, physical comedy, roast comedy, stand ups and many different types of comedy. In fact, it will be the first show which has a lot of visual comedy, where acts take place on sloped sets, miniature settings and so on. The idea behind all this is to make me and the audience laugh. I am the Laughing Buddha on the show and I must add that I have the easiest job on set. If I find something funny, I have to laugh, and the laughter meter counts how many times I have laughed during a particular act and accordingly give the team points. I’m not a conventional judge on the show, but the number of times a team makes me laugh, will determine their score on the show.

How is this show different?

A majority of the comedy shows that we have witnessed on TV till now have focused on a format wherein the host does some stand-up, then you have celebs on stage and then you see a set of comedians playing a part or donning an avatar that they continue to be seen in throughout the show. However, with Zee Comedy Show, we have no host. We have comedians, actors, singers and dancer-chorgeographers — each of whom will don new avatars each episode and present multiple genres of comedy under one roof. The show will act as a stress buster for one and all as well during this pandemic and with several talented artistes, I am looking forward to shooting for the show.

Any plans of working on OTT?

I am open to all kinds of opportunities and work, be it on OTT, theatrical movies or music videos. In fact, I made a music video with Sonu Sood recently, which will be out soon. I also plan to make two more music videos under Desi Music Factory’s banner. I cannot speak about them at the moment, but they should be announced soon. I am also in talks for something in the OTT space, there are a few scripts that are in the offing, but I can’t speak about it till it gets finalised. Talking about movies, I was actually going to start a film last year, however, due to the pandemic, it has been delayed, but I feel it will happen whenever it has to happen, and I’ll surely speak about it after it goes on floors. I am happy doing ads and music videos at the moment.

Is the Sonu Sood music video your debut in that space?

No, I have directed music videos in the past too, but those were more promotional songs for movies. This is an out-and-out music video, and it will release soon. We’ve shot it like a mini-film, and it has an emotional story that everyone will connect with and enjoy watching.

You also shot for an ad with Dhoni recently. How was the experience?

It was the first time I met Dhoni and worked with him and I must say he is a gentleman, very down-to-earth and patient. He had a few changes, but he used to quickly change and come on the floor, so we wrapped the shoot sooner than we thought. In fact, he was kind and while we had never spoken before, in a matter of minutes after we met, we started chatting and even ended up having a good conversation over food on set.

With three kids at home and the pandemic still going on, how cautious are you while shooting?

I am extremely cautious, in fact, I keep my mask on at all times, except when the camera is rolling. Also, I am fully vaccinated now, so that does give me some relief, but I still take all the precautions while I am on set. I carry my own blanket, towel and food to the set. I also keep disinfecting everything around me, so I take as much care as I possibly can.
