Students yet to get seat in Govt school despite CM's assurance

Staff Reporter

The Delhi Government has promised moon to many but haven’t given them even an inch of it. Two school students, who petitioned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for admissions in Government-run schools in the national Capital, learnt this the hard way. Despite being promoted a seat in Delhi Government schools, they failed to get it. Jiender and Ankit passed their Class VII examination from private schools in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh and are trying their luck to get admission in Class IX.

While studying in Vidya Bal Bhawan Senior Secondary School, Kondli, Gharoli road, Mayur Vihar-III, Jitender had passed Class VII in the academic year 2014-15. Due to financial problems, his parents tried to shift him in Government school but failed as schools gave them the vague excuse of “No vacant Seat”. Jitender along with his mother visited Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Dallupura, Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Kondli, Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Kalyanpuri, Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Kalyanvas, Government Boys Senior Secondary School, Khichdipur, Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya , East Vinod Nagar, Rajkiya Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Mandvali but failed to get admission in any of these schools.

Taking a note from the advertisement posted by Kejriwal Government, the parents have questioned the Delhi Government and have alleged that the ruling party is no more in the favour of aam aadmi.

“This is a mental harassment; my son is hunting for the admission before summer vacations. Why schools are not giving the admission to my son while he is eligible in every sense,” said Seema, Jitender’s mother. “I visited Kejriwal’s office two times, they are just giving the assurance but the time is passing. This Government is no more of poor people,” the mother further said.

The case of Ankit is not different. Ankit shifted to Delhi with his aunt to pursue higher studies. Carrying a certificate of transfer from UP State Education Board, he tried to get admission in Class IX in Rajkiya Sarvodya Vidyalaya, Chandra Vihar, Mandavali. But the school principal denied him admission. Both the children have addressed their problem in Janta Darbar where Kejriwal assured them for the admission. But none of them have got admission in Government schools yet.

Meanwhile, both the cases have been addressed to the Directorate of Higher Education by advocate and RTI activist Ashok Agarwal but nothing has happened.

“I have submitted a written application to the DOH to intervene. Both the children have failed to get admission while they meet all the eligibility criteria to get admission in Delhi Government schools,” said Agarwal.
