VISHAl SINGH is on a high, what with his international modelling projects and film Traffic that released last week. PRAKRITI ROY catches up with the Saath Nibhana Saathiya actor to know more
He wooed his audience as the perfect son and husband on TV show Saath Nibhana Saathiya. But Vishal Singh has now taken the leap in to films and is gravitating towards Hollywood.
His first Hindi feature film,Traffic was released on May 6. The film is the Hindi remake of the Malayalam film of the same name. “The film has a great ensemble cast and each character has his or her own story. I am playing a young, ambitious journalist, fresh out of college who is in love with an older woman,” Vishal says.
He describes the experience of working with actors like Kitu Gidwani and Sachin Khedekar as a once in a lifetime opportunity and a great start to his film career. Although he has no scenes with the actors in the film like Jimmy Shergill and Manoj Bajpayee, he says, “I saw Manojji working and it is a mind-blowing experience. He is standing there and talking to you and as soon as the director says ‘action’, he turns into someone else altogether.”
For Vishal, it was never important to do films just for the sake of it and he admits that survival in films would be difficult. “It’s not like I was slogging to get a film project. Traffic came my way and it was the first good film that I did. I would much rather do substantial TV roles than do random films. It’s my good karma that landed me a role in a great movie that has an excellent script and some of the best actors around to work with,” he says.
However, acting is not the only thing he has set his eyes upon. He has also been modeling in the US and has walked the ramp for the lA Fashion Week and Style Fashion Week. Even that was not something that Singh pursued and the offer came to his doorstep.
His aim now is to follow in Priyanka Chopra’s footsteps and score a role in an US show for which he has met with a few agencies. “I’ve not finalised anything yet but I would like to go to the US and spend some time working there. These are big decisions that can’t be taken on the spur of the moment, rightIJ” he says.
Having worked in the TV for around seven-eight years now, Vishal has seen a many changes and trends. “TV is changing and so is cinema. But it’s a slow change,” he says, adding that dramas like ...Saathiya are still the daily soap that work even today, but there is a lot of experimentation happening. “The biggest is the supernatural element on TV. I don’t know whether it’s good or bad but it’s happening.”
He also feels that people watch saas-bahu dramas because they can relate to them more and the supernatural shows work because viewers sometimes want an escape from reality.
