Stepdad, mom held for abandoning 4-month-old girl

Staff Reporter

The South-East district police arrested two accused, including a stepfather, who abandoned his four-month-old baby girl in jungle behind Hanuman temple on MB Road on Saturday morning.

The arrested have been identified as Irshad Ali, 33 from Farrukhabad in UP and Mobina Khatoon, 18, his wife from Sangam Vihar. Police found the real name of the infant to be ‘Nagma’.

Probe revealed that Mobina was earlier married to one Raju and gave birth to Nagma in September of 2016. He then left her to go to Nepal, following which she got married to Dilshad and started living with him. Dilshad, who works as a labourer and has 4 children — two daughters and two sons — forced her to abandon the child on account of financial crunch.

According to police, wide publicity about the abandoned infant in area through the social media helped them get credible information about her parents and a team of Pul Prahladpur police arrested the two accused.

Police have registered a case Under Sections 317 of IPC. The child has been handed over to an NGO and will be produced before child welfare committee on Monday, both the accused will be produced before the court on Sunday.
