At a time when the Government is grappling with the escalating tensions over Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class X Mathematics and Class XII Economics paper leak, and even it announced rescheduled dates on Friday, scores of Staff Selection Commission (SSC) aspirants added to its woes when they took to Parliament Street demanding a CBI probe under a Supreme Court-monitored Committee into the alleged SSC paper leak scam.
The SSC protesters even joined the school students in support of their demands and protested against CBSE and Government. They even clashed with the police personnel. Earlier in the morning on Saturday, a group of students staged a demonstration near the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) office at Preet Vihar in New Delhi against the paper leaks. These students tried to block the road in front of the CBSE office, but were kept away by Delhi Police. A group of about 30 students are protesting outside the CBSE office.
The SSC aspirants have been protesting against the paper leak since February this year and had given the Central Government an ultimatum till March 31 to fulfil their demands. The students are demanding a CBI probe under a Supreme Court-monitored committee. The students had earlier threatened that if their demands are not met students from all over the country will assemble at Delhi’s Parliament Street on 31 March and “gherao” Parliament. The protesters converged in Central Delhi and marched towards Parliament when they were detained after a mild lathi charge.
On March 20, the Centre had informed the Supreme Court that the CBI had registered a preliminary inquiry in the SSC paper leak case and is investigating the matter
On Friday, hundreds of students and members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) held protests in several parts of the national capital against the CBSE paper leak. The students accused the board of negligence and demanding immediate action against the guilty.
On Saturday, the Delhi Police sent three teams to schools, exam centers and residences of students in outer Delhi. As per reports, more than 60 people have been questioned till now out of which 10 are tutors of coaching centers. Over 50 cell phones of students and tutors have been seized till now, the Police informed.
Union Government on Friday had announced a reexamination of the Class 12 Economics paper on April 25, while the re-test for the Class 10 Mathematics paper is likely to be conducted in July. Education Secretary Anil Swarup said that a preliminary enquiry had revealed that the leak for the Class 10 Mathematics paper was restricted to Delhi and Haryana. Meanwhile, CBSE in a press release informed that the fake question paper of Class XII - Hindi (Elective) is being circulated on social media i.e. WhatsApp, YouTube etc. is not a real one.
“It is hereby informed that the question papers circulating on these social media are either of old year or a fake question paper.
“Hence it is requested not to circulate the news about these fake papers so that the Students and other stakeholders are not mislead,” said CBSE.
