Singing & me? Naah!

Deebashree Mohanty

AKSHARA HAASAN is super thrilled about her upcoming project Shamitabh where she plays Dhanush’s wife. Although she doesn't reveal much about her role in the film, the debutante tells Deebashree Mohanty it’s a very important one

She refused more than 10 film offers before accepting this one, but Akshara Hassan is confident it is the right one. “I just had to do it from the moment I read the script. It is a powerful concept, a challenge for any actor. I feel proud to have been offered this role,” the 25 -year-old says. She also tells you that each day on the sets of Shamitabh was a learning experience.

“It was crazy. It was tough but it was a lesson I needed. I have learnt so much from this film,” the Kamal Haasan-Sarika’s star kid who was assistant director of Vishwaroopam, tells you. Her parents are very proud to see their daughters doing well. “They are happy to see us well settled in this industry. Now that Shruti has found her feet and I am slowly getting there, they must be relieved,” she says. Prod her as much as you can to give more details about the film but Akshara doesn’t budge from her “cannot reveal anything” stance.

So you go on to more generic questioning. Why actingIJ “Because I am ready for it. At first I was not sure whether I could act. And now that I have, with Shamitabh, it feels great,” she says, adding that she has three plumb projects in hand already. But before we can talk about her taste in music, Akshara warns that she is an ‘awful, awful singer'. “I cannot sing to save my life or anyone else's! But I am a dancer and I can beat anyone to it,” she declares.
