Without forgetting the gin revolution of yesteryears, Greater Than, a modern Indian craft Gin decided to remove a glitch in history — William Hogarth's art work, Gin Lane.
It is a misleading piece of art created at a time when gin was the most popular drink of choice in London. Brimming with death, disease and disgust, Hogarth’s work aimed to point out the evils of drinking gin.
271 years later, with gin once again rising as the popular choice around the world, Nao Spirits wanted to take a shot at reimagining Gin Lane through fresh eyes.
At the event on July 2, artists Priyesh Trivedi, Priya Kuriyan, Shweta Sharma, Jasjyot Singh Hans, Saswata & Susruta Mukherjee (Bob & Bobby) displayed their unique, modern interpretations of Gin Lane while following the basic structure Hogarth had created in 1751.
“This collaboration between the artists and Greater Than is our attempt at correcting what we feel is wrong and to make gin reater together,” says Aparajita Ninan, Co-Founder and Creative Head for Nao Spirits.
