Proper implementation of laws must to empower women: Sonia

PNS

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday called for effective implementation of laws to check crime against women and change in the mindset of society to ensure their empowerment.

“We realise that by just making laws and announcing policies would not be enough to empower women. Along with it, policies and laws will have to be implemented properly on ground,” Sonia said while addressing a function to mark the launch of the Ahimsa Messenger scheme under which volunteers will be trained to spread awareness on women’s issues.

“We should end all acts of violence against women and initiate all steps so that women feel safe and become fearless, empowered and they are given the respect,” she said.

Sonia also called people to launch a social revolution for empowering women by changing the mindset and old thoughts of our society. Giving women equal status as men is a very big challenge and the wall of discrimination amongst women has to be demolished. She emphasised the need to give daughters equal status to sons in the family
