Practising epiphanic consciousness

Pioneer

This can help create a change in one’s perception of the self and the world around, writes Buddhadeb Basu

To understand epiphanic consciousness, we have to know about epiphany. The term epiphany is derived from Greek word epiphainein, which means to manifest and/or appear in special light. Most of us use normal thinking to induce our consciousness to decide the course of action for many problems which we encounter in our everyday lives. It is, therefore, important to know whether epiphanic consciousness is required to embrace upon in lives or not. All the perplexities in our lives created by known or unknown forces that unnecessarily generate hullabaloo can be minimised or even neutralised, if we adopt this doctrine of epiphanic consciousness.

When you master this technique, you will find startling moments in your life which affect a drastic change in perception. An epiphanic consciousness is a moment in which a person has a sudden profound realisation which is prompted by an external object or an inner voice. This epiphanic consciousness creates a change in one’s perception of himself or herself and the world around. This needs practice.

Every morning after getting up, you must say three times, “I believe, I believe, I believe.” In this way, you will be able to increase your mental strength which, in turn, opens your inner eye to destroy the negativity and ill feelings. The word believe, when empowered with spiritually, eliminates negativity and you automatically gain positive energy. With this positive energy, if you encounter any problem, then epiphanic consciousness will arise and you will be able to come out unscathed. Epiphanic consciousness will show you the path to success.

You may have to also say, “I can do all things through God which strengthens me”. This sentence is to be repeated at least 10 times early morning and when you perform this, you have to focus your mind and soul on God. This will not produce any result overnight, but by continuous practice, you can eliminate your distress, disease and despondency. After all, your mind is then controlled by epiphanic consciousness. If you read James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, you will find how nicely he has narrated the protagonist’s characterisation when Stephen sees a beautiful girl wading in the water.

As he sees the girl, he is overwhelmed by her beauty and the magnificence of that moment. It is this comprehension and perception of the beauty of life which through a sudden intuitive realisation points to the significance of the epiphanic consciousness. like Joyce’s protagonist, you can also enjoy your life if you overcome all the negative traits like anger, lust, desire, ego and greed by practicing the doctrine of epiphanic consciousness.

As American preachers Harold R Schuller and Norman Vincent Peale would often say, if you regard God as your friend, then your mind’s doors and windows will automatically open and all the problems of your life will not puzzle anymore as you know that He is going to stand by you. It is true that God enters your room without your knowledge, but if you are able to master this doctrine of epiphanic consciousness, you will be able to visualise His presence spiritually.

The world today, with its military advances and militant nationalism, has become a dangerous place to live in and so this doctrine acts as a spiritual development and would increase coherence and brotherhood in the world. The importance of epiphanic consciousness is paramount and you should adopt this doctrine in your day-to-day life.
