People across country are disillusioned with Modi: Pawar

TN RAGHUNATHA

A day after the NDA Government won the confidence vote in lok Sabha, NCP president Sharad Pawar on Saturday charged that the people across the country were disillusioned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as he had failed miserably to live up to the expectations that the people had of him ahead of the 2014 polls.

Addressing his party workers at a party workers’ training here, Pawar said: “The people of the country had given a mandate in favour of Modi in the 2014 polls. The People had expected him to change the situation in the country. But Modi has miserably failed to fulfil the hopes of the people. The people across the country are disillusioned with him”.

Alluding to an incident in Rajasthan where a 28-year-old man was beaten to death on suspicion that he was smuggling cows, Pawar hit out at increased incidents of mob lynching indulged by gau rakshaks across the country

“There is a tradition in some parts of the country where people eat meat. Still people get lynched by mobs on suspicion of partaking cow meat.

Recently we witnessed such an incident where a violent mob killed a man on suspicion that he was keeping cow meat. A subsequent inquiry into the incident revealed that the meat over which the mob killed the man was not that of a cow. After the death of the victim, his family was left to fend for itself. Who will take responsibility for thisIJ,” the NCP chief asked.

Pawar said that with the Modi government failing to deliver goods during the last four years, the country was heading in “an all together different direction”. “The Government of the day should have ensured that there is amity between states, people and communities. But unfortunately with the Modi Government at the Centre, this has not happened.

The rift and division among various sections of the society and people has increased during the four years.  What we are witnessing in the country is a matter of serious concern,” the NCP president said.

Meanwhile, NCP’s former deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal – who was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on May 4 after more than two years of his incarceration in a money laundering case – was in his element when he came down heavily on the Modi government for trying to make Mumbai into Gujarat.

Speaking at the party workers’ training camp, Bhujbal charged that the Modi Government was bent on annulling reservations to backward classes.

An influential OBC leader and founder-President of Akhil Bhartiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad, Bhujbal said: “The current Government is bent on annulling the entire reservations.

No wonder the Government is vastly reducing reserved quotas. All I can say is that you fool some people for some time but not all people all times. The Shiv Sainiks indulge in protests on smallest pretexts. But our party workers wait for instructions from the party leaders”.
