The time has come for me to do what God expects from us humans. It is my turn to meet God’s expectations, says AJIT KUMAR BISHNOI
If I look back, my life has been full of my legitimate desires getting fulfilled. Starting with admission in an engineering college, I have been showered with God’s mercy throughout my life.
I did quite well in my four years there, and desired to continue my studies abroad. However, this required sufficient funds in order to be able to afford it, and my family did not have the necessary money for this purpose. Therefore, I made requests for grant of assistantship wherever I applied. Then, I experienced the second favour of God; I got admission in a famous university, and they offered assistantship as well.
Once there, I was offered a unique course, whereas I had planned to obtain Master’s degree in a regular engineering subject. This made my specialisation unique and got me an attractive job once I finished my studies. This was great but something greater was in store; my employers were keen to have a joint collaboration with me in India. I was over the moon with the idea.
After training me, they armed me with all the drawings, technical data, legal paperwork, etc, and I was off to India. Again, the merciful lord smiled on me and the business took off, and has been supporting my family adequately for more than four decades. Soon after returning to India, my desire to marry a beautiful girl got fulfilled and this girl became my first spiritual mentor also. I was blessed with a daughter — my only progeny. She has been a constant source of strength to me ever since.
Settled in life, I wished to preach. God provided opportunities in a famous organisation. Now a new desire surfaced; I wished to conduct workshops in schools. God arranged them also and I conducted hundreds of workshops in schools of Delhi and Noida. This done, I had to write. God empowered me and my articles began to get printed in national newspapers. Another spiritual mentor came into my life and we wrote many books together, which enabled us to participate in book fairs on the strength of our own books.
In all these years, God gave me constant guidance and suitable warnings. I was protected from all kinds of troubles and dangers; I could cross all impediments which came my way. My health held in spite of multiple challenges and many duties; God had made available a homeopathic expert doctor in the form of my maternal aunt. Timely help and many miracles made sure that I kept on going strongly in my material and spiritual pursuits. I am especially thankful to God for helping me in overcoming maya — material attractions, which otherwise could have derailed me.
All these enhanced my attraction for God and somewhere down the line, I developed love for him. Now the time has come for me to do exactly what the lord expects from us human beings. It is my turn now to come up to God’s expectations. It is not that I have not been doing spiritual acts all this while, but now I must do what the lord wants most. For this, I looked up the Bhagavad Gita for guidance and found the necessary information.
In the verse #18.63, lord Krishna speaks about knowledge — the secret of all secrets, and then he goes on to give six final instructions. The first one is to develop God’s consciousness, which is different from material consciousness, that we generally have. I find this to be the most crucial from which everything else flows. The next instruction is to become God’s devotee. The third is to make sacrifices for God, ie do what God expects us to do rather than listening to our minds and material intelligence.
The fourth instruction is to pay obeisance to God, ie be respectful towards him. The fifth instruction is to take God’s shelter and his alone. And the last one is to preach all that God has taught earlier. I am fully determined to follow these instructions. I will not want to disappoint my long-time benefactor. Do I not stand to gain God’s further boons and blessings by doing soIJ
