The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has tightened its noose on property tax defaulters and has decided to initiate penal action against them. The corporation on Saturday sealed a few floors of a banquet hall (Amitabh banquet) after it failed to pay property tax of whopping Rs70 lakh. The banquet hall is located in Bungalow Road, Kamla Nagar.
According to officials in the NMC, the property owner’s bank accounts were attached, a couple of notices were sent but to no avail. “We tried every bit and gave multiple opportunities to the defaulter to clear the dues. First we attached the bank account, we sent him a couple of notices regarding the outstanding amount but even then he didn't pay the property tax. Therefore, keeping this in mind, today we sealed a few parts of the property,” said an official.
Despite sending notices to defaulters, the NMC has not been able to generate the property tax and hence once again they are failing to achieve their target. At present, more than 80 properties have been sealed as a result on nonpayment of taxes.
