Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Saturday that he was contesting elections from two places to bridge the gap between west and east.

Addressing a series of rallies on the last day of electioneering in Azamgarh region, Mulayam said, “I am contesting from Azamgarh because Samajwadi Party wants that eastern part of the State should also progress like western UP. We will work for the development of eastern UP and in coming days eastern UP will shine like western Uttar Pradesh.” Yadav is contesting from Mainpuri, from where he is sitting MP and Azamgarh which will go to polls on May 12. Mainpuri had gone to polls on April 24.

He said it is true that eastern Uttar Pradesh lags behind in development as compared to western Uttar Pradesh. This is because no elected representative had given importance to this area. “People of Azamgarh wanted me to contest from here. I bowed down to the pressure and contesting election from here. People of this region had seen the Congress, BJP and the BSP representatives. They know only Samajwadi Party can usher in development here and therefore they will vote for us,” Yadav said while addressing rallies in Sarai Mir, Mubarakpur, Mehnagar and Jeeyanpur.

He also elaborated on the successful schemes launched by the Akhilesh Yadav Government for the welfare of the poor and Muslims. He spoke about the unemployment allowance scheme and Government endeavor to distribute laptops among the students. “I know that I will win election from Mainpuri with a large margin of votes. I want Azamgarh should break that record. Therefore, I appeal to you all to vote for Samajwadi Party for the prosperity of the region,” Yadav said. He also addressed a meeting in lalganj in favour of SP candidate Baichai Saroj.
