Bodies of two women, related as mother-daughter, were recovered from the bogies of a train stationed at Shahdara railway station on Friday.
A senior police officer said, the bodies have been identified as Maya (55) and her daughter Nishu (34), residents of Bulandshahr's Yakubpur village. A case has been registered at the Government Railway Police (GRP) police station and investigation is underway.
The bodies were found in two bogies of the Mahananda Express plying between Delhi and Alipurduar (WB), which has been stationed at a siding of Shahdara station due to disrupted rail traffic caused by floods in Bihar.
A pantry car manager found one of the bodies on Friday morning as he had gone to use the toilet in the train. He later alerted the GRP personnel who found the other body in a different coach of the train.
"The bodies have been sent to mortuary for post-mortem examination that will be conducted on Sunday. The exact cause of death will be determined through autopsy report," said the officer.
Identities of the bodies were revealed through a paper slip on which the address of Yakubur village in Bulandshahar was scribbled, police said.
Maya belonged to Mathura and her daughter Nishu was married to Pushpendra of Yakubpur in Bulandshahar. Since, the marriage of Nishu was solemnised less than seven years back, the local SDM is also conducting enquiry in her death.
Maya, a widow, lived with Nishu's family in Yakubpur. They had disappeared from Yakubpur under mysterious circumstances on August 16. A missing complaint was filed by Nishu's father in law at a local police station in Bulandshahar, said the officer.
Police enquiry also revealed that Maya owned land in Mathura and her brother in law allegedly wanted to grab the land.
"Teams have been formed to probe the suspected murders from all possible angles including property and family dispute, dowry, as well as sexual assault. The CCTV footage near the spot is also been scanned to find leads," added the officer.
