A 43-year-old con man was arrested late on Friday for allegedly duping a woman of Rs 5 lakh by posing as a CBI officer and promising her a job in the agency.

Jojo Mathew also intimidated and sexually abused the woman, a widow, when she demanded her money back. IP Estate Police said Mathew lives with his wife in the staff quarters of GB Pant Hospital, where his wife works as a nurse. The woman lives in Gole Market. "The victim, a native of Kerala told the police she met the accused around one and half years ago at a marriage function," said a senior police officer.

According to the police, Mathew sought Rs 5 lakh from the woman for giving to some senior officers of the CBI. "He then started avoiding her, not taking her phone calls. The woman then went to his home, demanding her money back," said the officer. Mathew initially refused but later agreed to the refund, demanding sexual gratification.

The shocked victim refused but Mathew threatened to implicate her in a false case. "For the past 18 months, he raped her several times and threatened her of dire consequences if she informed anyone," the officer added.

The woman finally mustered courage to tell a friend and the matter reached the police.
