Staff Reporter

A 42-year-old man was beaten to death while his two brothers injured in an alleged attack by his neighbour and his family members over an issue of using a mat for performing namaz (prayer) on Friday in North-East Delhi’s Welcome area. Police have arrested four persons, including a woman in connection with the case.

The attack took place when Mansoob Khan and his two elder brothers Sultan and Mukhtar objected to the use of a mat (for namaz) brought by Hanif, who lived in their neighbourhood in Janta Colony on Friday evening. Police said both the families had earlier disputes as well.

When this was heard by Hanif, he along with his wife Feroz, son laiq and relative Taju attacked Mansoob and his two brothers outside their home. An eyewitness told police that the attackers were carrying a baseball bat and knife on them. Police said two minors of Mansoob’s family also received injuries during the attack.

After receiving a call on police control room (PCR), police reached the spot and took all the injured to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital where Mansoob succumbed to his injuries. Police said a case under sections of murder has been registered and all the attackers have been arrested. Mansoob Khan worked in a printing press.
