Amidst all the anti-women gory incidents occurring nationwide, the ladakh International Film Festival (lIFF) has, in its own way, pledged to spread the message of women's rights and safety.

Members of lIFF, on Saturday, flagged off the 'Respect, Equality and Dignity for women' campaign wherein it aims to achieve 3.7 crore signatures until the Women's Day, next year. Eminent filmmaker Govind Nihalani launched the campaign at an event organised in the Capital in which the dates for the second edition of lIFF were also announced.

The RED Campaign, as the lIFF members call it, has aims on getting online signatures to signify the gap between the males and females in the Nation. "The number is significant because the gender gap between males and females is also 3.7 crore in India. The signature drive began at 11:30 am at The Press Club on Friday. Anyone can drop by and participate in it," said Melwyn Williams Chirayath, co-founder of lIFF.

The theme of lIFF 2013, to be organised in leh from September 13 to 15, is 'Women in Cinema, On and Off Screen'. "Films are an important platform to awaken the masses. Considering the present scenario, the theme will help people know about the strength of women in today's life," said Nihalani, whose film Dehum will be screened in the festival.
