Arrested Trinamool Congress MP Kunal Ghosh was on Saturday remanded to seven-day police custody by a Howrah district court after he was producedbefore the court by the Howrah Police in connection with themulti-crore ponzi fund case.

He had earlier been remanded to judicial custody by a Bidhannagarcourt after his arrest a week ago.The Howrah Police took him into custody in regard to a case filed by a chit fund agent. Though his name had not been filed in the FIR the police said they needed to interrogate the MP for his role, if any, in the case.

Meanwhile, the Government lawyer also moved a petition seeking leave to appeal before the higher court against an earlier order of the Bidhannagar court permitting Ghosh to get his statements recorded before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPc leading the Opposition to allege that the Government was trying to hide itscorrupt deeds “so it is trying not to allow Ghosh to get his statementrecorded under 164.”
