Kejri's about-face: Will contest lS polls but not in race for top job

SR

Taking a U-turn on his earlier announcement that he would not contest the upcoming lok Sabha polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said he would do so if his party asks him to but he won’t be in the race for the top post. Dismissing Congress Party’s prospects in the upcoming elections, he said the general elections would see a fight between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In separate interviews to news channels, Kejriwal, when asked whether he would contest lok Sabha elections if the party asks him to do so, responded in the affirmative. “If the need arises, then I will contest elections. Personally, I don’t want to contest elections,” he said. This assumes significance as Kejriwal had earlier said that he or any of AAP MlAs would not contest the lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, promising to soon initiate action against the previous Sheila Dikshit Government on corruption allegations, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said they are currently studying the Commonwealth Games and Delhi Jal Board files and “won’t  spare” the Congress. “We are studying CWG files and all (Delhi) Jal Board files. We have set up an anti-corruption branch. In a few days we will start acting against the previous Government. We won’t spare the Congress,” he told news channels.
