Just Soy good

Deebashree Mohanty

If you are thinking authentic Chinese that offers something different from the wok, step into Soy in Khan Market for a pleasant experience. In its new avatar, this pan-Asian restaurant has everything right — the ambience, style and taste. After an impressive stint in Dubai, the owners are leaving no stone unturned to make Soy a good experience for Indian customers.

If you are already not impressed with the stylish interiors in wood, marble and glass, have a peek at the menu and you will be instantly gratified. “The menu has been conceptualised in a very interesting manner, exhibiting a perfect blend of old world classics and noveau seafood platters. We haven’t tried to experiment much with our signature dishes. We have only tried to serve it with a different preparation. For instance, we have the classic char grilled tenderloin with green pepper corn sauce, broccoli and enoki mushrooms as also sliced beef in oyster sauce & wasabi mash,” menu architect Chef lee says.

But it is the seafood that drives most customers to this place. “Our sautéed greens, Singapore chili crab and diced lobster in peppered lime and garlic sauce are all-time favourites. People prefer pan-fried salmon steak with a sprinkle of light soy and ginger for lunch as that is light on the stomach,” lee tells you.

Such is the demand for the fish that, most times, lee prefers to go fish marketing. “I am very serious about the fish being fresh so I make it a point to examine everything  myself. We have a certain commitment to customers,” lee says with sincerity. If you are not a seafood lover, you can try variations of pork and beef instead. The crispy pork in sweet and sour sauce and tea smoked mock chicken will make you an unabashed admirer.

Priced modestly, the restaurant churns out culinary gems from most regions of the Orient and does so in style.
