The Special Cell of Delhi Police have given a clean chit to its Head Constable, Giri Raj, who was posted at the Vasant Vihar police station. A departmental inquiry had been ordered against him after he was found for accessing the call detail records (CDR) of leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely.
The inquiry had been ordered after the arrest of a Delhi Police constable, Arvind Dabas, who was arrested for accessing the CDR of Jaitely and giving to a private detective agency.
Police sources said that Giri Raj was questioned by the sleuths of the Special Cell and he was given a clean chit as he had not accessed the CDR deliberately.
“The incident occurred following the investigation of November 17 gun-fight, in which liquor baron Ponty, and his younger brother Hardeep Singh were killed. At that time, he had sent 10 cell phone numbers, including Jaitely’s number to the cell phone service provider company after using the email ID of an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Vasant Vihar sub-division),” the sources added.
The inquiry against Giri Raj was ordered after The Pioneer reported that someone had tried to get the CDR of Jaitley by accessing the email id of an ACP (Operations of New Delhi district) following which the constable, Dabas was arrested. His questioning led police to private detectives Neeraj, Anurag Singh and Nitish.
A doctor Anurag Singh, who runs a detective agency, had been arrested earlier for his alleged role in the Amar Singh phone-tapping scandal case.
“Giri Raj was sent to the district lines and a departmental inquiry into the matter was ordered. Subsequently, he was questioned by Special Cell as he was not found to be involved in the case and had procured the details, not knowing that the cell phone number in the list of numbers belonged to Jaitley. later, he was given a clean chit,” the sources added.
