The Noida Authority is all set to implement Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) on the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway from January next year. The officials said that the 25-km long stretch between Noida and Greater Noida will become India’s first public sector high-speed link to implement ITS.

According to a senior official, companies from France, Austria and Abu-Dhabi have shown interests in the project of implementing this high-tech traffic management system, which will curb rampant accidents on this carriageway, which connects the national Capital to the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida.

"Participation of international agencies in this project has left officials surprised and enthusiastic. The authority is likely to select an agency within a month. The work on this project will begin in the first week of January. Once the work begins, we will complete this project in six months," said Sandeep Chandra, Senior Project Engineer of Noida Authority.

"The authority will, for the first time, allot `43 crore mega project through a global tender. At present, the Yamuna Expressway has this system, but it does not send traffic violations and other details to police and other emergency control rooms. But, ITS on Noida Expressway will be completely high-tech in all senses," said Chandra.

The official added that Steria, a French agency, was the world's first to implement ITS on an Expressway in France. Another agency -- Afkon -- from Austria is providing its services on the Yamuna Expressway. The third agency - Falcon from Abu-Dhabi has expertise in dealing with railway traffic management.
