Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda assured that Delhi will get its legitimate share of water and Haryana would not be able to provide additional water to the national Capital. A delegation of MPs and MlAs from Delhi met Hooda on Saturday, urging him to provide additional water supply to Delhi in the wake of acute shortage of raw water here.

Three MPs — Sandeep Dikshit, Ramesh Kumar, Mahabal Mishra and over a dozen of MlAs — including Mukesh Sharma, Naseeb Singh, Anil Bhardwaj, Surender Kumar, Prahlad Singh Sawhney, Rajesh Jain, Surinder Pal Singh Bittu, Mangat Ram Singhal, Hari Shankar Gupta, Dr Narender Nath and Vir Singh Dhingan — were part of the representation that had met Hooda.

Sources present in the meeting said that the Haryana Chief Minister has categorically stated that the people of Haryana would be his first priority and he would not keep them thirsty. However, he assured that the Capital will get its legitimate share of water. This means Haryana will not provide additional water to Delhi. Hooda said that Delhi will continue to get 610 cusec water from Munak canal as per the agreement.

Due to repair work in the Upper Ganga canal in Uttar Pardesh, there was no water in most parts of South and East Delhi on Saturday. The Capital is facing a shortage of 70-80 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) of water due to the breach. A team of Delhi Jal Board, on Saturday, went to Khatauli to take account of the the repair work at the canal, which is expected to completed only by Monday evening, making the people suffer for at least two more days.
