While most actors from Tollywood make efforts to ultimately settle down in tinsel town, Siddharth Narayan is one actor from down south who is content with what he is doing there.
“After Rang De Basanti was released in 2006, a lot of people wanted me to settle down in Mumbai. Why would I do that. I already have a house in Hyderabad,” says Narayan who was in Delhi to promote Chashme Buddoor along with the crew.
This is his third Bollywood film in seven years but Narayan is far from complaining. “I am not a supporting actor and the roles that were offered to me after I did Rang De Basanti didn’t excite me. Moreover, like I said before, I am more into Tollywood where I produce, act and sing,” he says.
So, what made him choose Chashme BuddoorIJ “David Dhawan is a friend and I liked the role of Jai , so I couldn’t say no. Also, the director of the original Chashme Buddoor and I studied together at the Kirori Mal College, Delhi. Working in this film is a emotional decision for me,” Narayan says.
But isn’t he considered a serious actor down southIJ “Yes, a lot of people are surprised to see me in a comedy film but I believe there are only two kinds of films — one that finds a connect with the audience and the other that doesn’t. CB falls into the former category”.
Talking about the film, he says that although it is a re-make, many elements have been freshly added to it.
“ When I saw the film, I asked David why the film was even called CB. We could have called it Har Ek Friend Kamina Hota Hai,” he says, adding that he wouldn’t be surprised if many youngsters watch the original film after seeing this one.
“The original one was no Sholay. It was a small budget film which was a hit on Doordarshan. Youngsters of that time may not have watched it,” he says.
