Ahead of the Assembly polls in the State expected to be held in December this year, the Gujarat Government ordered transfer of more than 60 IPS officers.
Highly placed sources in the General Administration Department (GAD) said it is just a beginning of mass transfers of senior Government officials. More transfers of senior cops as well as IAS officers are on the cards in view of the Assembly elections 2017, sources said.
The transfer orders for these senior police officers were issued by GAD on the auspicious day of Vijaya Dashami. Interestingly, the State administration has not included police commissioners of four major cities — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. But if sources have to be believed, their turns are on cards in the next list of transfers.
Of the 61 transferred IPS officers, two were given promotions, including Bhavnagar SP Dipankar Trivedi and State Crime Bureau SP Ashok Kumar Yadav, who have been made Deputy Inspector General of Police.
Apart from IPS officers, the State Home Department is allegedly working on transfers of Dy SP rank officers also. Before the announcement of State Assembly polls, mass transfers of all level of cops, including Police Inspectors and Police Sub Inspectors, in the State police department are expected.
Similarly lists of the collectors, deputy collectors and other key officials in revenue department are being prepared who has been serving for more than two years at the same places.
